Airtel Payment appoints Anubrata Biswas as MD, CEO

Airtel Payments Bank has appointed Anubrata Biswas as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The post was lying vacant since end-December after the exit of Shashi Arora, who left the bank due the to the Aadhaar eKYC controversy.

In its official communique, the bank said that Biswas will be responsible for leading Airtel Payments Bank’s motive of introducing innovation through digital banking services and reach the doorstep of every Indian.

Biwas has more than 17 years of experience in the banking sector. He was appointed as the Joint General Manager and Retail Business Head – South India, for ICICI Bank and managing retail banking business of more than 550 branches of the bank, prior to joining Airtel Payments Bank

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University and a PGDBM from IIM-Ahmedabad.

After receiving the final nod from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Airtel Payments Bank was the first payments bank to kick-start its operations in India. It is a 100 per cent paperless digital bank, aiming at offering convenient banking services to the customers by leveraging the network spread across over five-lakh banking points.
