Bank employees to hold All-India strike on Feb 7

Demanding a solution to problems associated with demonetisation, nearly four lakh employees have planned to go on a strike.

The strike has been called by All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI),reported the Hindu.

Talking about the problems arising post demonetisation for the bank employees, C. H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA said, “ Bank employees want the Government and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to ensure supply of adequate cash to all banks and branches including regional rural banks and co-operative banks.”

“All Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) should be restored immediately and availability of cash in ATMs should be ensured. They should remove all restrictions on withdrawal of cash by customers. There is also need to stop favoritism in supply of cash to banks,” he said.

Venkatachalam further added, “There should also be a CBI enquiry on instances of huge new currency notes with some “big persons” when branches are starved of cash. The Government must also provide compensation to family of general public, bank customers and bank staff who lost their lives recently due to demonetisation episode.”
