In a bid to ensure the growth of digital payments, Centre has asked all departments to enable electronic payment options such as BHIM-UPI QR code at their cash counters.
As per the sources , Ajay Prakash Sawhney, secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in a closed door session, have conveyed to the bureaucrats that a lot of ground is still required to bring the majority of merchants and highway tollpayers within the digital platform arena.
He has reportedly given a six point formula for achieving success in terms of e-payments. These points include tasks like displaying BHIM-UPI QR codes at all cash counters in government offices or notify the customers for using e- payments through united payments interface (UPI).
Digital payments have gained a lot of popularity in India in the last four years. According to data provided by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the volume of transactions in terms of e-payments, have multiplied five time in the last four years.
