Jan Dhan accounts surpass deposits worth Rs 80,000 cr in April

Jan Dhan accountsThe popularity of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts is steadily rising as total deposits under these accounts have reached Rs 80,545.70 crore on April 11, 2018, said Ministry of Finance.

Deposits under these accounts have been rising ever since the demonetisation drive.

The World Bank’s latest report titled Global Findex Report, 2017 clearly cited the rising acceptance of Jan Dhan Yojana.

India’s efforts to deal with Financial Inclusion have been recognised by the World Bank. Data by this international organisation indicates that 55 per cent f the new bank accounts opened are from India.

Reportedly, the deposits reported in the later part of November 2016 increased to  Rs 74,000 crore from about Rs 45,300 from the beginning of the same month, as people rushed to banks to handle the cash scarcity caused due to demonetisation.
