PSU Bank Unions threatens to strike on December 27

Bank Strike

Bank StrikeA section of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) has threatened to call a strike on December 27 in a bid to implement early wage revision for IDBI Bank employees, due since 2012.

Following the intimation, several PSBs including State Bank of India (SBI), Vijaya Bank have confirmed their presence in the protest and therefore informed their customers about inconvenience if it materialises.

Banks are informed by Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) that members of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) have served notices of strike on IBA for December 27 in all banks on certain issues.

The strike has been called to extend support to the employees of IDBI Bank in wake of the undue delay of about five year in implementation of wage revision, said C H Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA.

The wage revision for the IDBI Bank is due since 2012 and the Chief Labour Commissioner has called for a conciliatory meeting on December 20, he said.

He further said that if the IBA and bank management do not offer assurance in this regard the unions would be forced to go on strike.

“Members of the said unions are likely to participate in this strike. The strike has been called by AIBEA or AIBOA which have members in certain areas of our bank. Hence, the likely impact of strike may not be much excluding few areas,” said SBI.
