Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan is nowadays busy preparing himself to give business lessons to students in America.
Having resigned from one of the most celebrated posts in India, Rajan has joined University of Chicago Booth School of Business as ‘Distinguished Service Professor of Finance’. He would start teaching international corporate finance from the second half of 2017
He will specifically lecture on challenges of corporate finance and investment in a more integrated global economy.
During his tenure as a professor, Rajan is also going to cover aspects such as how should one optimally organize the location of production, control, and financing? What kinds of new concerns emerge when the whole world, rather than just one’s domestic economy, become the arena of decision making?
Rajan is associated with the Chicago University since 1991. He had taken leave from the university to join RBI in 2013.After three glorious yet controversial years, Rajan had announced that he was keen to rejoin as a professor and next year his dream will finally come true.
According to the university, Rajan research interests are in banking, corporate finance, and economic development, especially the role finance plays in it.
During his tenure as RBI Governor, Rajan was always praised of being vocal not only on economic issues of the country but also political and social issues.He often landed himself in controversy when he openly criticised Modi Govt on certain key issues.
Raghuram Rajan was the first one who had predicted the global financial crisis of 2008. He is also a member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was also the President of the American Finance Association in 2011.
