RBI to issue new ‘greenish-yellow colour’ Rs 20 denomination banknote

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is soon going to launch Rs 20 denomination banknotes greenish-yellow colour.  The new banknote will be 63 X 129 mm in size. The apex bank had earlier introduced the Rs 20 note in the Mahatma Gandhi Series in August 2001.

“In contrast to the old red-orange coloured Rs 20 note of the size 143 X 63 mm, which has a motif of Mount Harriet, the new note will have a motif of Ellora caves on the back side, depicting India’s cultural heritage,” said RBI in its official communiqué.

As notified by the central bank, the front side of the note will carry a see-through register with denominational numeral 20. This is the small floral design printed both on the front (hollow) and back (filled up) of the note in the middle of the vertical band next to the watermark and has an accurate back to back registration. The design will appear as one floral design if the note is held against the light

The note will also have a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the center with RBI, Bharat, India and 20, written in micro letters along with a gurantee clause, Governor’s Shaktikanta Das’ signature with the promise clause and RBI emblem towards the right of Gandhi’s portrait.
