Senior IAS officer and Power Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg retires

Subhash Chandra Garg, Secretary at Ministry of Power retired after his request for voluntary retirement, submitted in July this year, came into effect today. 

He was shifted from the Ministry of Finance to Power ministry in July. Thereafter he announced that he had applied for voluntary retirement from service.

Garg has shared a three page thank you note on twitter sharing his experience so far. 

Garg writes, “Moving out of the IAS today. Over 36 years of incredibly satisfying, gratifying and fulfilling experience. Look forward now to a new innings outside Government in Finance and Economic policy making related work. A Note summarises my service experience and plans.”

Earlier, Garg was in charge of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), and was designated the Finance Secretary. However, in a surprise move.

As DEA Secretary, he was in charge of fiscal policy, RBI-related matters, and was closely involved in the preparation of union budget.

The 1983 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, Garg  became a part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in 2014, and was appointed Executive Director in the World Bank where he stayed till 2017, when he was appointed DEA Secretary in June 2017.

 In March 2019 (rpt) March 2019, he was elevated as the Finance Secretary following retirement of A N Jha (rpt) A N Jha.
