E-commerce platforms charge MRP as offline stores levy extra: Survey

E-commerce platforms have reported a better performance in terms of charging exact MRP on the products sold while offline stores levy extra charge going against the guidelines issued by the centre amid the lockdown, reveals a survey conducted by LocalCircles.

Besides, the survey reported that 39% of respondents had at some point in the last five weeks of lockdown were subjected to extra charges on the MRP of a packaged product bought from an offline store.

On the other hand only 21% of respondents said they had been charged more than the MRP for packaged products purchased through e-commerce platforms in the same period.

Majority complaints received by the survey were pertaining to overcharging on products such as masks and hand sanitisers , both online and offline,  in the first two weeks of the lockdown , at the of time demand and low supply.

While e-commerce platforms have largely curbed down such practices by sellers, some instances continue to remain, consumers reported.
