FM Nirmala Sitharaman unveils doorstep banking services for PSBs

In a bid to offer convenient banking amid the outbreak of Covid-19, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched doorstep banking services for public sector banks.

“At this stage, the catalysts for economic revival, the catalysts that have the pulse of every one of their customers, are banks,” said the finance minister. Financial services under Ease Reforms shall be made available from October 2020.

Nirmala Sitharaman“Banks need to introspect on their core businesses,” said the minister after launching PSB Alliance-Doorstep Banking Services on Wednesday.

During the launch she said, “The rapid pace with which India has adopted Jan Dhan, Aadhar and mobile can be a lesson to other countries.”

While speaking at the launch, the minister added that the lenders must reach out to the sections where banking has not been able to reach so far. She said that all bank staff should be well versed with the government schemes, to implemented via the lenders.

Sitharaman said that the services will be offered by the Doorstep Banking Agents appointed by the selected Service Providers at 100 centres across the country.

Customers of Public Sector Banks can avail the services at nominal charges. The services shall offer benefit to all customers, particularly the Senior Citizens and Divyangs who would be able to avail these services at ease.

These Ease Reforms would be providing services to the customers at their door step via universal touch points such as Call Centre, Web Portal or Mobile App. Customers can also track their service request through these channels.

The non-financial services under the reforms would be rendered vis-a-vis pick up of negotiable instruments (cheque/demand draft / pay order, etc.), pick up new cheque book requisition slip, request for account statement, delivery of non-personalised cheque book, delivery of pre-paid instrument / gift card and others are available to customers.
