KRC Murty Appointment Signals SBI Life’s Push for Tech-Led Insurance

KRC Murthy

SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd has named KRC Murty as Executive Vice President and Head of IT for its banking services division. This strategic move comes at a time when the insurer is accelerating its digital overhaul to meet evolving customer demands and regulatory pressures in the sector. Murty steps into the role from YES Bank, where he served as Senior President and Head of IMG for Business and Digital Technology Solutions since May 2023, overseeing production support for core applications and digital platforms.

With more than 28 years in information technology across banking, financial services, and insurance, Murty brings proven expertise in managing complex IT ecosystems. His career trajectory includes a pivotal stint at Kotak Mahindra Bank from October 2018 to May 2023 as Head of RTB Information Technology, where he handled run-the-bank operations critical to daily banking functions. Prior to that, he spent over 13 years at Deutsche Bank from 2005 to 2018, leading technology support for corporate banking, private wealth, asset management, and global transaction banking, while also spearheading market data services for South Asia and remote computing initiatives.

Murty’s earlier roles further underscore his versatility. From 2000 to 2005, he managed end-user computing, market data, and regulatory systems for DSP Merrill Lynch’s trade floor operations in India at Merrill Lynch. He began his professional journey in the late 1990s with HDFC Bank and Times Bank, building foundational skills in infrastructure, software development, and IT service management. Certified in Six Sigma Green Belt and ITIL v3, along with system administration in AS/400, Solaris, and Windows NT, he excels in project execution, incident management, and digital transformation projects.

His leadership is expected to support the company’s growth ambitions, leveraging SBI Group’s vast network. As digital adoption surges in insurance, such hires signal a proactive stance on tech-driven efficiency and customer-centric solutions.
