Sanjay Lohiya Appointed Special Secretary, Department of Financial Services

Sanjay Lohiya

New Delhi: Sanjay Lohiya, an IAS officer of the 1994 batch (AM cadre), has been appointed as Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, Lohiya will take on the new role by temporarily upgrading a vacant post of Joint Secretary in the department. His appointment comes as part of key administrative changes aimed at strengthening leadership within the financial services ecosystem.

According to the official notification, Lohiya will subsequently assume charge as Secretary, Department of Financial Services, succeeding Nagaraju Maddirala upon his superannuation on May 31, 2026.

The Department of Financial Services, under the Ministry of Finance, plays a critical role in overseeing banking, insurance, and financial inclusion initiatives across the country. Lohiya’s appointment is expected to bring administrative continuity and strategic direction to the department at a time when India’s financial sector is undergoing rapid transformation.
