Federal Bank on 6 November 2026 announced that it has been empanelled on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ (MCA) SPICe+ portal, the government’s integrated web form for company incorporation. Entrepreneurs registering a new company through SPICe+ can now select Federal Bank as their banking partner and open the company’s bank account as part of the incorporation process itself.
The Kochi-headquartered private lender has been steadily adding digital layers to its business franchise, from its voice AI deployment with GreyLabs AI to transaction banking platforms for corporates. The SPICe+ empanelment extends that push to the very first day of a company’s life.
What the Federal Bank SPICe+ empanelment means
SPICe+ (Simplified Proforma for Incorporating Company Electronically Plus) is an integrated digital platform that handles company incorporation along with a bundle of statutory registrations, including bank account opening through participating banks. According to the MCA’s SPICe+ FAQs, every company incorporated through SPICe+ since 23 February 2020 must apply to open its bank account through the linked AGILE-PRO-S web form, and the bank account service carries no additional fee.
With the empanelment, start-ups, entrepreneurs and emerging businesses can choose Federal Bank in that step, so the banking relationship begins during registration rather than after the certificate of incorporation is issued. Federal Bank said this is expected to ensure a smooth transition from incorporation to banking.
What Federal Bank said
Joy P V, Executive Vice President and Country Head – Retail Liability and Fee Products, Federal Bank, said: “The integration is aimed at simplifying the business setup journey by providing companies with immediate access to a trusted banking partner from the very beginning of their entrepreneurial journey.”
The bank said the move is part of its efforts to strengthen digital capabilities and customer-centric offerings for start-ups, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and corporate customers. It aims to support businesses through seamless digital onboarding, technology-led banking services and customised financial solutions. Its existing business banking suite, including current accounts for businesses, sits behind this new incorporation-stage entry point.
Why it matters for MSME and start-up banking
For a new company, the operating bank account is often the first financial product it needs, and the bank that wins that account is well placed to cross-sell payments, credit and treasury services later. Embedding account opening inside the incorporation flow gives Federal Bank access to founders at the earliest possible moment, alongside its corporate offerings such as the FedOne corporate banking platform.
The development also reflects how onboarding across Indian finance is moving to digital, paperless rails, as seen in SEBI’s digital KYC route for NRIs and OCIs. Small-business credit is following the same path, with AI-first lenders such as Vegafin’s planned MSME lending platform.
The announcement comes as Federal Bank reported a record net profit of ₹1,386 crore for the September 2026 quarter, up 45% year on year, as covered in Elets’ review of private banks’ Q2 FY27 results.
