HDFC Bank has appointed Anup Bagchi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO), effective October 27, 2026. Bagchi succeeds Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose tenure concluded on October 26, marking a leadership transition at one of India’s largest private sector banks.
According to a regulatory filing, Jagdishan vacated office at the close of business hours on October 26 following the completion of his tenure. Bagchi formally assumed charge the following day.
The bank acknowledged Jagdishan’s contributions during his tenure, crediting his leadership with strengthening its performance, organisational culture and customer-centric approach. It also highlighted his role in overseeing the completion of one of the largest mergers in corporate India.
HDFC Bank welcomed Bagchi to his new position and expressed confidence in his leadership as the institution continues to advance its strategic priorities.
The bank stated that the details relating to Bagchi and Jagdishan, as required under the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s listing regulations, had been provided in an earlier regulatory intimation dated October 1.
The leadership transition comes at a significant time for HDFC Bank as it continues to focus on business growth, operational performance and customer service following its merger with HDFC Ltd. The appointment places Bagchi at the helm of the bank as it pursues its next phase of strategic development.
As MD & CEO, Bagchi will lead the bank’s overall business operations and strategic direction, with a focus on sustaining growth and strengthening its position in India’s competitive banking sector.
