Ashok Chandra will take over as Executive Director of Canara Bank on November 21, 2022. He has extensive experience in the banking industry, having worked as a branch head in varied demographics such as rural, urban, and metro areas, as well as managing bigger duties such as heading bank zones.
Chandra managed four VLBs and gained experience with global operations while working at the Bank’s representative office in Dubai, UAE. He was also tasked with leading two important zones of the bank, Varanasi, and Delhi (where he successfully provided the requisite outcomes), and had a successful stint.
When he was promoted to General Manager in 2018, he was tasked with leading the bank’s Recovery, Legal, and Stressed Asset Management Vertical (SAMV). He remained at Union Bank of India until his promotion to Chief General Manager in 2020.
He was chosen to participate in the Banks Board Bureau’s leadership programme. Chandra began his banking career as a Probationary Officer at Erstwhile Corporation Bank in September 1991. He was educated in Patna and holds a Master’s degree in Economics. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
