Babitha B P has been appointed as Deputy Chief Information Security Officer at State Bank of India, taking charge in June 2025 as part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership in cybersecurity and risk management. With more than twenty years of experience in IT and information security, Babitha brings a wealth of expertise to the country’s largest public sector bank at a time when the financial sector is facing heightened cybersecurity threats and increasing regulatory scrutiny. Her appointment is a strategic move by SBI to reinforce its digital infrastructure and ensure robust protection of its vast digital assets.

Babitha’s professional journey began in 2001 after completing her BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from TKM Engineering College, Kollam. Over the past two decades, she has held key leadership roles in the banking and financial services sector, including her recent tenure as Vice President of System Audit at Reserve Bank Information Technology (ReBIT) and as Chief Information Security Officer at CSB Bank. Her experience spans critical areas such as infrastructure security, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and implementing advanced cybersecurity frameworks, skills that are increasingly vital for banks navigating the evolving threat landscape.

In her new role at SBI, Babitha is tasked with overseeing the bank’s infrastructure security, leading special projects, and driving strategic cybersecurity initiatives. Her appointment comes amid a broader senior management reshuffle at SBI, reflecting the bank’s commitment to operational excellence and digital transformation. As Deputy CISO and General Manager (Infrastructure Security & Special Projects), she will play a pivotal role in shaping the bank’s security posture, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting the adoption of new technologies across SBI’s digital ecosystem.
