BHIM app slashes all records, crosses 18 million downloads

Digital payments app BHIM, which was launched by the central government last year, has broken all records and crossed 18 million downloads.

“BHIM app breaks all records! Crosses a record of 18 million downloads since its launch on December 30, 2016,” tweeted Amitabh Kant, chief executive officer, Niti Aayog, reported the Business Standard.

The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app was initially launched on the iOS platform and now it is also available for Android users.

On December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the app for fast and secure cashless transactions using mobile phones.

BHIM is a platform designed to make payment through Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) modes simpler.

Digital payment channels like mobile wallets, USSD and RuPay have seen massive rise in transactions post demonetisation.
