Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal was given an additional charge of Ministry of Finance during a cabinet reshuffle which saw Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani being eased out from this plum profile.
Irani, however, would continue to look after Textile Ministry, an official communique stated on Monday.
Goyal will be handling the new portfolio till the time Finance Minister Arun Jaitley recovers from his ailment. Jaitley successfully underwent a kidney transplant on Sunday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Irani’s portfolio is now assigned to Rajyavardhan Rathore. He will be at the helm of the I&B ministry with independent charge.
Rathore was sworn-in as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in 2014.
Further, SS Ahluwalia has been made the new Minister of State for Electronics.
The cabinet reshuffle was informed about by the President Office in an official communiqué.
