To achieve the government’s revised direct tax collection of Rs 13.35 lakh crore, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), has laid out its target.
The CBDT in a letter to all the principal commissioners on Monday has laid out the target for all of its regions. According to the target set by CBDT, Mumbai region is expected to contribute Rs 4.29 lakh crore which is highest in the country. It is followed by the expected collection from the Delhi region which is expected to contribute Rs 1.93 lakh crore.
It is expected that Mumbai will also make a contribution of Rs 12,800 crore via securities transaction tax.
In February, the Interim Budget was presented which laid out a direct tax collection target of Rs 13.8 lakh crore, which was lowered to Rs 13.35 lakh crore in the final Budget presented in July.
CBDT Chairman Pramod Chandra Mody had said that the revised figure is difficult but still achievable when compared to the target set by the government in February.
