Central Board of Indirect Taxes appoints M Ajit Kumar as new chairman

The centre has announced the appointment of M Ajit Kumar as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

This move has been initiated just two days before the Union Budget 2020 presentation by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman.

The order issued by the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and it said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of M. Ajit Kumar, IRS (C&CE 84), as Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).”

Besides, the order has been inked by Rajeev Lochan, under secretary, and a copy is marked to revenue secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey, to whom the CBIC reports.

The new Chairman’s immediate responsibilities will comprise boosting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues and deal with any important changes in customs duties which are introduced as a part of the Budget 2020 on Saturday.
