After deactivating several PAN cards to curb forgery, the Centre has now deactivated nearly 81 Lakh Aadhaar cards, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology PP Chaudhary informed Rajya Sabha.
“The deactivations were made as per the sections of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and provisions related to deactivation (suspension) of Aadhaar numbers based on the Aadhaar Life Cycle Management guideline,” said the minister.
In case of multiple Aadhaar identities of a person, cancellation or deactivation of Aadhaar can be done under Sections 27 and 28 of the Aadhaar Act.
At a time when the Centre is making the Aadhaar mandatory for several key services, deactivation has come up as a major reason for worry.However, every user can follow some simple steps to find oute the status of their Aadhaar card.
Follow the steps to find out the status of your Aadhaar card:
1. Visit the website of UIDAI by clicking on the link http://www.uidai.gov.in.
2.Look for a tab on UIDAI’S homepage that says Verify Aadhaar Number. The tab would be a dropdown option in the Aadhaar Services category. As you click the verification link, you will be redirected to a new portal — resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaarverification

3. Enter your Aadhaar number and a security code and verify the details.
