The Centre today announced the launch of brand new Rs 20 coin, almost ten years after introducing Rs 10 coin.
The new coin will be available in 12-edged polygon (dodecagon) shape.
The Union Ministry of Finance has notified that the outer diameter of new Rs 20 coin will be 27mm (millimeters) and its weight will be around 8.54 grams.
The outer disc of the new coin will be an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel with 65 percent, 15 percent and 20 percent presence respectively.
The inner ring of the coin will have 75 percent copper, 20 percent zinc and five percent nickel.
Reports suggest that the Lion Capitol symbol of Ashoka Pillar with the inscription “Satyamev Jayate” will be below on its front side. The left and the right hand side of the coin will carry the words “Bharat” in Hindi and “INDIA” in English respectively.
Reverse side of the coin will bear denominational value “20”. Rupee symbol will be visible just above the denominational value, decorated by design of grains depicting the agricultural dominance of the country.
Twenty Rupees in Hindi and English will be written, at the bottom of the reverse side. Unlike the Rs 10 coin, the new Rs 20 will not carry any design on its edges.
