Cholamandalam Finance pioneers sustainable development towards “Swaccha Odisha Gram Vikas Scheme”

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited (Chola), the financial services arm of the Murugappa Group, reaffirms its commitment to environmentally friendly energy for Cuttack District’s distant areas. Even today, the rural community in Odisha faces issues such as a lack of access to essential infrastructure and services such as safe drinking water and sanitation. Chola has provided for the construction of individual family toilets connected by overhead water tanks through its CSR initiative ‘Swaccha Odisha Gramme Vikas phase VI’. Solar panels will also be placed to dig borewells and provide electricity to each dwelling.

Odisha, with its rich cultural legacy and steadily rising literacy rate, struggles with limited access to clean water, sanitation, health, and education. Chola Finance is committed to improving health and sanitation infrastructure and raising awareness about safe drinking water, sanitation, and health in distant places.

The ‘Swaccha Odisha Gramme Vikas phase VI’ project will be conducted in the villages of Ekdal, Harijan Sahi, and Bhaliadihi in the Cuttack district of Odisha for the fiscal year 2023-24, serving about 500 residents. This mission will promote healthy living and the creation of a sustainable environment.

Solar panels will be erected in the individual communities to offer uninterrupted electricity in order to minimise the region’s constant power outages. This will allow individuals to run their water motors without worrying about running out of electricity. The power cables will be immediately connected to the installed solar panels, reducing energy consumption and encouraging the usage of sustainable energy.

In addition, a series of awareness seminars will be held on safety hygiene, sanitization, and healthy toilet practices in order to establish a sustainable livelihood, as well as instruction on minimal repair and maintenance of the solar units to ensure the smooth operation of the water supply line.

Ravindra Kundu, Executive Director, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Chola Finance is focussed towards helping India achieve its Sustainable development Goals. As a part of nation building, we are thrilled to reiterate our commitment towards sustainable energy, taking strides towards a cleaner, greener future. By embracing renewable resources and cutting-edge technologies, we aim to drive positive change and inspire others to join us on this impactful journey. This mission will benefit the people of Ektal, Harijan Sahi and Bhaliadihi villages in Cuttack with better infrastructure for clean and healthy sanitation facilities. This is our sixth phase of the initiatives carried out in Odisha. We are looking forward to the impact we will bring through our continuous work in Odisha and aim to contribute towards cleaner and greener environment”
