As per the data categories such as messaging, entertainment, social media and online news are the top four categories that have the highest adoption amongst language users, reported The Financial Express.
The report says that 169 million users are accessing Indian languages on various messaging apps, followed by digital entertainment at 167 million users, social media at 115 million users, while 106 million users access news online in Indian languages.
Furthermore, the total share of Indian language internet users accessing online payment services is expected to increase from the current 28 per cent that is 47 million to 175 million by 2021. In digital payments, Hindi accounts for 50 per cent of current Indian language internet users.
Digital classified companies too are expected to see a rise in number of users relying on Indian languages from the current 24 million to 100 million by 2021. Sectors such as jobs, matrimony, and real-estate will see a robust growth, states the report.
Also, the digital advertising spend in local languages is expected to reach $1.5 billion in next four years. The share of digital advertisements in local languages is expected to increase from 5 per cent to about 35 per cent by 2021
