Equinix signs memorandum of understanding (mou) with government of Tamil Nadu

Equinix

To promote and facilitate the future project at Siruseri, Tamil Nadu, Equinix India and Guidance, the nodal agency of the Tamil Nadu government, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The company has leased 5.95 acres of land at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) IT Park on a long-term basis as part of its expansion and growth strategy in India and to expand its activities in Chennai. It is well situated in the Siruseri district of Chennai, which is referred to as the city’s “IT Corridor,” and is home to sizable and developing IT parks as well as well-established telecom networks.

The project entails constructing a top-notch data centre with a 24-MW maximum IT load capacity. Over the next ten years, the corporation plans to make incremental investments totaling over Rs. 1000 crore. About 90 skilled workers from a variety of disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, information technology, and operations, are anticipated to be employed by the project. In addition, the facility will employ 250 to 400 experienced and unskilled people each day for the duration of the 2-3 years-long construction period.

India is a strategic market for Equinix, according to Manoj Paul, managing director of Equinix India. As part of our commitment to the market, we have invested in Chennai to promote the development of India’s digital infrastructure. We are eager for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu as Chennai has become a hub for data centres due to many favourable aspects. We appreciate the cooperation provided by the Industries Department, the Tamil Nadu government, SIPCOT, and Guidance Tamil Nadu for Equinix’s expansion into Chennai. We think we can create a successful data centre in Chennai, especially in terms of creating jobs, while providing customers with best-in-class digital infrastructure with the requisite infrastructure support, regulatory facilitation, and uninterrupted power supply.
