Facebook, WhatsApp most preferred social commerce platforms in India: Report

Social networking site Facebook and its messaging app WhatsApp are the leading platforms for merchants in India, in terms of selling their goods and services, says a report by PayPal.
In its report titled ‘Beyond Networking: Social Commerce as a Driver of Digital PaymentsPayPal around 89 percent of merchants prefer Facebook and 83 percent use WhatsApp as the social business platforms in India.
fb_whatsappWhile 69 percent of merchants chose Facebook Messenger, Instagram has just begun its journey as a social commerce platform. As per the report, Indonesia and Phillippines have seen more than 90 percent usage of Facebook as a social commerce platform.”The rise of the new economy is giving way to the next big shift in commerce, social commerce.
The growing ease of conducting commerce is opening up a range of economic opportunities for every member of the community. This is just a beginning,” said Rohan Mahadevan, Paypal, APAC.
Further, other platforms such as Youtube, Twitter, Google+, Skype and LinkedIn have reported 64 percent, 61 percent, 50 percent, 53 percent, and LinkedIn 33 percent.
The survey was conducted across seven markets in Asia, which included India, Thailand, China, Hongkong, Phillippines, Indonesia and Singapore, with participation 4000 consumers and 1400 merchants across.
