Digital lending platform Fibe has partnered with Hygge Energy Inc., a Canadian fintech-for-cleantech company, to plug consumer loan financing directly into Hygge’s digital rooftop solar marketplace. The tie-up, announced in Pune on 27 October 2026, is designed to make it simpler and quicker for Indian households to finance rooftop solar installations and to support wider uptake of the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Where lending meets energy infrastructure
Hygge Energy has already piloted peer-to-peer rooftop solar energy trading in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Its marketplace allows households and businesses that generate rooftop solar power, often called prosumers, to sell surplus electricity directly to other consumers, improving the economics of each installation.
With the infrastructure for that trading marketplace in place, Hygge is now extending the platform to rooftop solar financing. Under the partnership, customers discovering solar options on the Hygge platform will be digitally connected with solar providers and with Fibe’s credit offerings, so the purchase and the loan can move through a single digital journey rather than separate, paperwork-heavy processes.
Why it matters for green retail credit
Upfront cost remains one of the biggest barriers to rooftop solar adoption for middle-income households, even with subsidies under PM Surya Ghar. Embedding credit at the point where a customer is evaluating an installation is a classic embedded-finance play, and it gives digital lenders a new, asset-linked use case beyond conventional personal loans.
For Fibe, which focuses on young, digitally savvy and middle-income borrowers, the tie-up deepens a clean-energy lending line that sits alongside its impact loans for healthcare and education, digital fixed deposits, loans against mutual funds and long-tenure personal loans.
What the leaders said
Akshay Mehrotra, Managing Director and Group CEO, Fibe, said the company is focused on making credit more accessible through technology-led solutions that meet real customer needs. He described the Hygge partnership as a step towards easier financing for households looking to go solar, adding that combining Hygge’s digital energy marketplace with Fibe’s lending capabilities should simplify the financing journey and support broader clean-energy adoption.
Prateek Saxena, Founder and CEO, Hygge Energy, said this is the company’s first partnership with a major Indian digital consumer lender. He said integrating Fibe’s financing with Hygge’s Canadian-developed digital infrastructure for India’s rooftop solar market is intended to demonstrate how asset tokenisation and loan financing can bring digital finance and clean energy together.
The bigger picture
The partnership reflects a growing intersection of fintech and climate finance in India, where lenders are looking for scalable, digitally originated green loan products and energy platforms are looking for financing rails that remove friction at the moment of purchase. If the model scales, digitally financed and tokenised rooftop assets could become a meaningful new category in India’s retail lending market.
