Arun Jaitley

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will follow the established convention and present an interim budget for Financial Year 2019-2020 in February. The budget is expected to showcase the government’s achievements and present vision for the next five years, a senior official said.

Arun JaitleyHowever, the official rejected the speculation about the introduction of the Union budget months before the general election.

“It will be an interim budget,” said the official. He also said that discussions on this haven’t started yet.

The finance ministry collected inputs from different central ministries pertaining to the budget on Wednesday. Arun Jaitley’s sixth budget in a row is expected to be presented on February 1, 2019.

Taking advantage of its decision last year to bring forward the presentation by a month to the start of February rather than the end, there have been reports that the government may present a full budget, These reports are inaccurate, said the official.
