Government Appoints Three Part-Time Directors to RBI Central Board

The Government of India has appointed Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, Syed Akbaruddin and Annie George Mathew as part-time, non-official directors on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of four years, effective August 24, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The appointments were approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) under Section 8(1)(c) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The move expands the RBI Central Board’s strength from 11 to 14 members.

Annie George Mathew, a former Special Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, brings more than three decades of experience in public finance, financial management, government audit and accounts. She is also a full-time member of the Sixteenth Finance Commission.

Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, an economist and management consultant, has held senior leadership positions at Boston Consulting Group, including Chairman of BCG Asia-Pacific. He has also been associated with government and regulatory committees focused on financial-sector reforms.
