Indian-origin American citizen Abhijit Banerjee has been awarded the Nobel Economics Prize for his experimental approach to alleviating global poverty, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said.
He has been named along with French-American Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for their work.
Banerjee is the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at MIT. A graduate from the University of Calcutta and post-graduate from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He had completed his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1988.
