MV Rao Assumes Chairmanship of the Indian Banks’ Association for 2023-24

In a significant development for the Indian banking sector, MV Rao, the seasoned Managing Director and CEO of the Central Bank of India, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) for the upcoming 2023-24 term. This announcement was made following a decision by the IBA’s Managing Committee during a meeting on 21st March, Thursday.

The Indian Banks’ Association, the leading industry body for banks in India, will see MV Rao at its helm, bringing his extensive experience in banking operations, management, and policy advocacy to the forefront. Rao’s leadership is expected to strengthen the association’s role in fostering a collaborative environment among Indian banks, advocating for policy reforms, and enhancing the global competitiveness of India’s banking sector.

Accompanying Rao, the IBA’s Managing Committee has appointed three Deputy Chairmen, selecting key figures from India’s banking leadership circle. The newly appointed deputies include Dinesh Kumar Khara, the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI), SL Jain, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank, and Dr. N Kamakodi, the MD and CEO of City Union Bank.

Each deputy brings a unique perspective and strategic insight to the association. Dinesh Kumar Khara’s stewardship of SBI, India’s largest public sector bank, has been marked by digital innovation and expansive outreach. SL Jain has been instrumental in Indian Bank’s growth trajectory and digital transformation initiatives. Dr. N Kamakodi, with his rich experience in City Union Bank, has led the bank towards strong financial performance and customer-centric initiatives.
