The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) denied issuing any notice or direction pertaining to a five-day week working for commercial banks.
“It has been reported in certain sections of the media that commercial banks would have a 5-day week in terms of RBI instructions. It is clarified that this information is not factually correct,” said the Central Bank, in its official communique.
The RBI has not generated any such directions, it said.
As per the ongoing rules, branches of all commercial banks in India observe holiday only on second and fourth Saturday of a month apart from Sunday.
Remaining Saturdays are mandated to be full working hour for banks
