Aadhaar supremacy seems to be prevailing longer as after PAN cards and bank accounts, it is now mandatory to link it with your SIM Cards.
Reportedly, the centre is now planning to make Aadhaar linking with SIM Cards, a mandatory move. Phones that are not linked with the unique biometric identification number will no longer be in use after February 2018.
The step seems to be in the wake of the Supreme Court’s order pronounced in February 2017, in the Lokniti Foundation case, directing all SIM cards to be linked with Aadhaar within a year from the date of judgement.
This step was seen as a measure to curb the menace of the terrorists, fraudsters, criminals who make use of the multiple SIMs to dodge the Police.
Responding to the apex body’s judgment, the centre had then assured of designing a framework for identifying pre-paid mobile users within a year.
According to the sources, since the telecom operators are not allowed to store the vital details available in the Aadhaar, they will not misuse the consumer’s data.
