Rama Mohan Rao Amara, Managing Director and CEO of SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd, to step down on Aug 11, 2023. On the same date, he will quit as a director of the corporation. Rao’s departure was owing to his return to the State Bank of India, according to an exchange filing.
Furthermore, SBI Cards has named Abhijit Chakravorty as Rao’s successor for a two-year term beginning August 12, 2023, subject to requisite approvals.
Chakravorty is currently employed at SBI as a deputy MD. Chakravorty began his banking career as a probationary officer with SBI in 1988 and has over 34 years of broad experience in retail and corporate banking, international operations, and the bank’s IT vertical.
Chakravorty has also worked in the Bank’s Hong Kong branch. He worked in the bank’s commercial credit business for a long time and was involved in high-value corporate financing. As CEO and country head, he oversaw the bank’s operations in Bangladesh.
Chakravorty formerly oversaw the vertical responsible for IT operations of the bank’s customer-facing channels and payment systems as chief general manager at the bank’s global IT centre.
