State Bank of India (SBI) has launched its inaugural Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru, signaling a bold step toward integrating advanced banking services with the city’s thriving technology ecosystem.

Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty inaugurated the facility in the Indiranagar area, marking the first such dedicated hub by an Indian bank to support multinational Global Capability Centres. This initiative introduces a specialised relationship management team focused solely on the financial needs of GCC clients, from transaction banking to customised digital solutions, positioning SBI at the forefront of serving global enterprises operating in India.

Alongside the GCC unveiling, 11 new SBI branches opened across Bengaluru, officiated by Joohi Smita Sinha, Chief General Manager of Bengaluru Circle, and other senior leaders. These expansions aim to improve accessibility for retail and corporate customers amid the region’s rapid urbanisation and economic growth, reinforcing SBI’s physical footprint in Karnataka’s financial capital.

SBI paired the launch with impactful CSR initiatives to uplift local communities. The bank pledged upgrades for 35 government primary schools statewide, enhancing infrastructure for underprivileged students.

Additional contributions include ENT diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for the ENT Wing of Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital at IISc Medical School, a 50,000-tree plantation drive on Tumkur University campus to promote environmental sustainability, and an e-ambulance donation to the Madras Engineer Group & Centre in Bengaluru.

This rollout underscores SBI’s dual focus on technological innovation and social responsibility. By catering to GCCs, expected to employ over 1.3 million professionals in India by 2026—the bank aligns with Bengaluru’s status as the world’s second-largest GCC hub after the US.
