WCD inks MoU with Skill Development Ministry to offer skill training to women

WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra PradhanIn a bid to ensure skill development and employment opportunity to women, Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The agreement is signed in the presence of WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The agreement would help women in becoming self-sufficient, said Gandhi.

“The WCD Ministry through the Rastriya Manila Kosh (RMK) will identify the skill sets and their geographical relevance which is suitable for enhancing livelihood of women through self-employment,” she said.

The agreement would help in training thousands of women and ensure the promotion of self-employment or wage employment, said Pradhan.

As a part of this MoU, the Skill Development Ministry will provide details of women to the WCD Ministry who have acquired skill development training and now engaged in production og goods or services after their training, he said.

In alignment with the RMK, the WCD ministry shall offer assistance to women and bring them onboard into Mahila e-haat, a digital platform meant for selling products produced by women, says the agreement.

On behalf of the two ministries, the RMK and the National Skill Development Council would be the implementing partners of the initiative and the agreement would be valid for a period of three years.
