Indian Bank introduces a QR-based payment system for CESC, Mysuru

Public sector Indian Bank announced the launch of a QR code bill payment system for Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd (CESC), making it the first electricity distribution business in Mysuru to offer such a service to clients, on Sunday.

Customers would be able to make payments without visiting any online portals or physically going to any payment centres by using the dynamic QR code connected to the universal payments interface (UPI) on printed electricity bills.

The bank, located in Chennai, said in a statement today that instant acknowledgement is sent and the QR code is removed once the transaction is done.

In the presence of key government officials, including CESC managing director Jayavibhava Swamy, Karnataka Minister of Energy V Sunil Kumar publicly unveiled the QR code solution.

According to Swamy, the CESC is in the process of developing a new form of bill production and payment system in collaboration with Indian Bank, as well as a capability for making RTGS-NEFT payments for bulk consumers utilising virtual account number (VAN).

Sudhir Kumar Gupta, field general manager at Indian Bank, emphasised the importance of simple and secure digital payment solutions in order to give clients with a hassle-free payment experience.
