IT BT Department of the Government of Karnataka and IIM Bangalore launch FinTech certificate programme

IT BT Department

The IT BT Department of the Government of Karnataka, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), has unveiled a transformative FinTech Certificate Programme designed to upskill early-career professionals and students in one of India’s fastest-growing industries. The initiative is powered by the state’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in FinTech and is backed by a substantial ₹5.04 crore investment under its Skilling & Training pillar.

The nine-month programme is structured to offer both foundational and advanced knowledge in key financial technologies that are reshaping the global economy. Participants will explore areas such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, digital payments, lending, and wealth management. Learning will be delivered through a hybrid approach, combining self-paced online modules with interactive live sessions via the IIMBx Digital Learning Foundation.

The course is divided into two phases — a six-month foundation stage and a subsequent three-month advanced stage — ensuring a smooth progression from basic concepts to specialised expertise. Designed to be inclusive, the subsidised fee structure makes this premium training accessible to talented individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds.

Karnataka, long recognised as a leader in technology innovation, contributes over 40% of India’s fintech advancements. This programme is a strategic step towards maintaining that leadership by developing a pipeline of skilled professionals who can lead fintech innovation in the years ahead. It represents a strong collaboration between government, academia, and industry stakeholders committed to building a future-ready digital economy.

Applications for the programme are open from August 11 to September 14, 2025, exclusively through the IIMBx portal. The course is being led by Professor G. Sabarinathan, retired faculty from IIMB’s Finance and Accounting area, and enjoys strong support from the Karnataka government, including Minister for IT & BT, Priyank Kharge.
