Western Union has inaugurated a new AI-led Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, in partnership with HCLTech. The centre will serve as a key hub for advancing innovation in payments technology and modernising Western Union’s digital platforms.
The launch event was attended by Devin McGranahan, Chief Executive Officer of Western Union, and C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director of HCLTech.
According to the companies, the Hyderabad GCC will play a central role in driving AI-powered transformation across Western Union’s technology stack. The centre will leverage HCLTech’s AI Force platform to accelerate platform modernisation, improve operational efficiency, and support the development of next-generation digital payment solutions.
The initiative aligns with Western Union’s “Beyond” strategy, which focuses on expanding the company’s capabilities beyond traditional money transfers to include broader financial and digital services. The GCC is expected to contribute to building scalable, secure, and customer-centric payment platforms.
Speaking at the inauguration, McGranahan said the new centre reflects Western Union’s commitment to using advanced technology to meet evolving customer needs and support long-term growth. Vijayakumar said the partnership brings together Western Union’s global payments expertise and HCLTech’s strengths in AI-led digital engineering.
The Hyderabad centre will initially focus on payments innovation, data and analytics, and core platform upgrades, with plans to expand its scope over time. The move also reinforces Hyderabad’s growing position as a global hub for technology, fintech, and GCC operations.
