Airtel Payments Bank unveils new eco-friendly NCMC debit and pre-paid cards in collaboration with NPCI

Airtel Payments Bank

Airtel Payments Bank today introduced its new range of eco-friendly debit and pre-paid cards, which support the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system. These cards, created in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and based on the RuPay payment system, align with India’s One Nation, One Card initiative aimed at simplifying transactions across different transportation modes.

The newly launched NCMC-enabled cards are made from environmentally sustainable e-PVC material and are designed to offer seamless, secure, and contactless payment options. Customers of Airtel Payments Bank can utilize these cards across a wide range of services including e-commerce and at various merchant outlets, in addition to using them for NCMC transit transactions such as metros, buses, and parking facilities nationwide. The functionality extends to hassle-free entry at metro stations with a simple tap-and-go system, as well as the ability to manage concessions and monthly passes for different transport services.

Ganesh Ananthanarayanan, Chief Operating Officer at Airtel Payments Bank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to sustainability and customer convenience with these cards. “Our NCMC-enabled cards reflect our dedication to responsible consumption and production. We are committed to supporting India’s vision for a unified travel payment system,” he remarked.

Praveena Rai, COO at NPCI, also commented on the collaboration, highlighting the goal of transforming the transit payment landscape to ensure a more integrated and accessible system for users.
