Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday resumed his charge as Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister after being on medical leave for three months. He had undergone a renal transplant operation on May 14, this year.
Despite being on medical leave, Jaitley was quite active on social media, expressing his views on economic and non-economic views via several blogs. On August 9, he also attended the Rajya Sabha for the election of Deputy Chairman, his first public appearance in the last few months.
In his absence, Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal was given the additional charge of the Finance and Corporate Affairs portfolio.
An official communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan announced his return and said, “The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley.”
Soon after taking over the responsibility of the ministry, Jaitley tweeted pictures of him conducting a meeting with the secretaries.
