GST collections drop by 3% in December 2018

Centre’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection fell by 3 percent in December 2018 as compared to November last year, says the Union Finance Ministry’s official communiqué.

GSTAs per the communication, the GST collection in December last year dropped to Rs 94,726 crore from Rs 97,637 crore as reported in November.

However, the ministry says the compliance during December 2018 has improved. It reports that around 72.44 lakh returns were filed as of December 31 higher than the number reported in October. In October 2018, 69.6 lakh returns filed.

The GST collected under several categories comprises Central GST, State GST and integrated GST at Rs 16,442 crore, Rs 22,459 crore, and Rs 47,936 crore respectively.

 Cess remained at Rs 7,888 crore.
