IRDAI direct insurers to clarify insurance cover on disability, HIV & mental illness

Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has directed insurers providing health insurers to ensure a clear cut  clarification on underwriting policy covering persons with disability, people affected with HIV/AIDs and mental illness.

IRDAIIRDAI in an order said, “insurer shall evolve a health insurance underwriting policy covering approach and aspects relating to offering health insurance coverage not only to standard lives but also to substandard lives. The regulator desires all insurers’ targeted population to have complete knowledge on the philosophy that the insurers adopt while adhering to the coverage philosophy of above mentioned categories.
