Nikhil Kamath Invests ₹200 Crore in CtrlS Datacenters to Back India’s AI Infrastructure Boom

Nikhil Kamath

Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath has invested ₹200 crore in data centre infrastructure company CtrlS Datacenters, signalling growing investor interest in the physical infrastructure required to support India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Entrepreneur Sreeram Reddy Vanga has also invested ₹50 crore in the company. The investment comes at a time when demand for high-performance computing infrastructure is rising as businesses and technology companies scale AI models, applications and enterprise workloads.

CtrlS Datacenters currently operates 19 data centres across nine Indian markets, with more than 370 MW of existing capacity. The company also has around 4.4 GW of projects under execution, positioning it to support the growing requirements of AI and other data-intensive technologies.

The investment highlights a broader shift in the AI ecosystem, where infrastructure is emerging as a critical component alongside software and models. As AI adoption expands, organisations require access to large-scale computing resources, GPUs, storage, connectivity and reliable power to train and deploy increasingly sophisticated models.

The AI infrastructure chain broadly spans AI applications, foundation models, GPUs, data centres and power, making data centre capacity an increasingly important enabler of the sector’s growth.

Kamath’s investment therefore comes as India seeks to strengthen its domestic AI capabilities and build the infrastructure needed to support large-scale digital workloads. The increasing deployment of AI across financial services, enterprises and consumer applications is expected to further accelerate demand for computing capacity.

The investment also reflects a growing opportunity beyond the software layer of the AI economy. While startups developing AI models and applications continue to attract significant attention, companies providing the underlying infrastructure could play an equally important role in enabling the country’s AI ambitions.
