One97 Communications Limited (OCL), the parent company of Paytm, has introduced UPI International, allowing users to make UPI payments at select locations in the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal. Indian travellers can now experience seamless, cashless payments abroad, due to Paytm’s latest innovation. This groundbreaking feature enhances the convenience of shopping, dining, and exploring international destinations with just the Paytm app.
With UPI International, travellers can pay at various international hotspots, including Dubai malls, Singapore markets, French cafés, Mauritius beach stalls, Bhutanese handicraft shops, and Nepalese trekking hubs. The service is easily activated with a one-time setup linked to the user’s bank account. Scanning a UPI-enabled QR code abroad triggers automatic activation, and travellers can set a usage period between 1 to 90 days. For added security, the feature can be deactivated anytime upon returning to India, ensuring payments are secure and intentional.
The feature also ensures transparency, displaying exact foreign exchange rates and conversion fees before completing a transaction.
Paytm spokesperson said, “As the pioneer of mobile payments in India, we are consistently innovating to bring greater convenience to our users. With UPI International, we’re thrilled to extend this ease to Indian travelers, enabling them to make secure, cashless payments in countries like the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal. With the upcoming holiday season, we are sure that this launch will make foreign travel even more convenient for users. This expansion reflects our commitment to leveraging technology that empowers our users, wherever they are in the world.”
In addition to UPI International, Paytm recently launched a UPI statement download feature to help users track expenses and manage finances effectively, especially during international travel. With features like UPI Lite for small transactions, RuPay Credit Card linking, and an auto-pay option, Paytm continues to lead the way in making financial management simple and efficient.
Paytm’s relentless innovation underscores its commitment to transforming digital payments. UPI International is another step toward empowering users with technology that transcends borders, ensuring that wherever they travel, seamless payment solutions are just a scan away.
