President Pranab Mukherjee praises Centre for promoting digital payments

President Pranab Mukherjee has praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for taking strong steps towards promoting the culture of digital payments.

He appreciated the central government’s cashless economy driven initiatives recently at a ceremony when he picked the lucky winner for the digital promotion scheme at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, reported The Economic Times.

He highlighted the significance of the Aadhaar card initiative, saying it is a watershed event in development story of India.

Highlighting the role of Aadhaar, he further explained that country is on the cusp of a digital revolution with more than a billion Indians having a unique identity number with a biometric identifier which is unique in its own way.

“I am happy today to be a part of the digital payment movement that India has embarked upon. I congratulate each one of you who has contributed in this mission to make India a  cashless society. This will help ensure financial inclusion where every Indian, irrespective of her socio-economic status, is empowered with necessary digital tools to participate in the new age economy,” said Mukherjee.

“Launch of BHIM has demystified the digital payments and brought it within the grasp of every citizen,” he added.
