Razorpay has partnered with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to pilot AI-enabled UPI payments, introducing a new era of fully automated conversational commerce in India’s digital payments ecosystem.
The initiative enables users to order food and groceries through a single AI-driven chat interface, where product discovery, selection, and payment are seamlessly integrated within one continuous conversation. By combining advanced AI models with the country’s robust Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure, the solution aims to simplify the entire transaction journey.
The pilot introduces features such as pre-set payment approvals within defined limits, allowing transactions to be completed without repeated authentication steps while still maintaining user control and security. This significantly enhances convenience and reduces friction in everyday digital transactions.
The collaboration marks a broader shift toward agent-driven commerce, where AI systems move beyond assisting users to executing actions end-to-end. From placing orders on partner platforms to completing payments instantly, AI agents are increasingly becoming active participants in the transaction lifecycle.
