The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a new Rs 50 denomination banknotes. This would be the third announcement pertaining to introduction of new currency, post-demonetisation.
As per the announcement the new Rs 50 currency notes will be of dimension 66 mm x 135 mm. It will feature motif of Hampi with chariot and will have the signature of Urjit R. Patel, Governor, RBI. The note will be in Fluorescent Blue colour.
Further, the central bank has also announced that all the banknotes in the denomination of ₹ 50/- in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender.
The note carries an attractive sequencing of geometric patterns with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.
The announcement of introduction of new currency notes of Rs 50 and Rs 20 was earlier made by the RBI in December.
As per the media reports the new banknote of Rs 50 is slightly smaller and slimmer than the existing note.
