Technology giant Wipro has appointed former State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya as an independent director for a tenure of five years with effect from January 1, 2019.
“I am confident that her deep repository of knowledge spanning across the financial services sector combined with her understanding of technology and proven expertise in driving operational transformation will immensely benefit Wipro,” said Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro.
Bhattacharya was associated with SBI for around 4o years. She had joined SBI as a Probationary Officer and became the first woman chairman of India’s largest lender. Last week, Reliance Industries inducted her as an independent director.
After Ireena Vittal, Bhattacharya will be the second woman to be a part of the 11-member Wipro board.
