Axis Bank Launches Industry-First UPI Controls to Strengthen Digital Payment Safety

Axis Bank

Mumbai, September 1, 2026: Axis Bank has introduced two new customer-centric capabilities—Industry-First UPI Limit Management and International Travel Declaration—as part of its broader Safe Banking proposition.

The new features are designed to give customers greater control over their digital payments while helping the Bank strengthen security and reduce friction in domestic and international transactions.

Customers Can Set Category-Wise UPI Limits

Through the UPI Limit Management feature, customers can set and manage transaction limits across three categories—Person-to-Person (P2P), Domestic Merchant and International Merchant payments—directly through the Axis Mobile Banking App.

The feature is currently being rolled out to a limited set of customers and will be extended to the wider customer base soon.

A key aspect of the offering is that the limits configured through the Axis Mobile Banking App apply across all UPI applications linked to the customer’s Axis Bank account. This provides customers with a unified mechanism to manage their UPI transaction exposure across the ecosystem.

Customers can access the feature through Quick Links → Safety Centre → UPI Module under Control Centre, where they can view and modify limits. Changes are authenticated through MPIN and OTP verification, with real-time confirmations delivered through in-app notifications and SMS alerts.

The feature is aimed at helping customers manage digital payment spending, limit exposure to unauthorized or accidental high-value transactions and gain greater visibility over their UPI activity.

International Travel Declaration to Reduce Payment Friction

Axis Bank has also introduced International Travel Declaration for eligible credit card customers. The feature enables customers to digitally declare their overseas travel plans before travelling.

International transactions may sometimes be flagged when they occur in unfamiliar locations or fall outside a customer’s usual spending patterns. By incorporating declared travel intent into its risk assessment process, Axis Bank aims to better identify genuine overseas transactions and reduce avoidable declines.

Customers can access the feature through Credit Card → Control Center → International Travel.

According to the Bank, the capability will provide additional contextual information for assessing international transactions while continuing to maintain existing fraud and security safeguards.

Strengthening Safe Banking

Commenting on the launch, Arnika Dixit, Group Head – Cards, Payments and Wealth Management, Axis Bank, said the Bank’s Safe Banking approach is focused on empowering customers with greater control and confidence over how they manage their finances.

She added that while UPI Limit Management allows customers to configure transaction limits across payment categories, International Travel Declaration helps incorporate customer travel intent into the Bank’s risk assessment process.

Together, the two initiatives represent Axis Bank’s continued focus on customer-controlled security, smarter risk management and seamless digital banking experiences.
